TW: This poem alludes to sexual assault

There was a girl who lost her keys

She felt so weak

Brought to her knees

Oh so precious were those keys

They didn’t open her car door

Nor did they belong to her house

Oh she fell so silent

You could hear a feeding mouse

Her keys were gone

She felt so ill

She laid down there

And laid so still

She lost the keys to her soul

Her key values

Her key roots

All the things she used to use

Now they’re gone

Taken away

By one cruel man

She could not sway

He saw her there

In the dark

Saw a chance

To take a spark

He was alone

She felt so blind

She was so lost

He looked refined

He tricked her head

And brought her close

She followed him

A choice she chose

With bad intentions

He led her astray

She realized too late

He took her spark away

And while doing so

He looked in her eyes

Saw the light dim

And was satisfied

And when she left

She didn’t return

She just walked away

And felt her stomach churn

He threw her keys

Into a sea

Or doubts and worries

And attacks of anxiety

So she laid there

In her room

She looked in her head

And through the gloom

She looked for her keys

To open her soul

To find her emotions

So she could be whole

He was so cruel

To take her light

But she wouldn’t let this

Be the end of her fight

And eventually she found

What he had tried to steal

She was able to stand

And finally start to heal.
