God Gave Me

God gave me a gift

And then sabotaged it

I chased after it

And it burned.

God made sure I could see values

God made sure I’d marvel at his creations

God gave me a pencil to start with

And I drew without cessation.

God made sure I could see color

God made sure I’d try to recreate them

God gave me a paintbrush to start with

And I painted mayhem.

But God had a plan

He saw his child dancing with joy

At finding a purpose in life

He made it a lesson.

See God knew that when I drew

And when I painted

That everything else would fall away

Every other need in life, waited.

I would forget food,

Water, and other necessities

Nothing else mattered

Until there was nothing left of me.

So, God gave me a lesson

To ensure I would never forget

My hands word in according to health

Or they short circuit.
